Tips for Fascinating Food Photography with iPhone
Click in natural light
Use the natural light to its maximum potential, it is always better to use natural daylight because of its colour neutrality. The colour contrast is important because in the usage of artificial light such as lamps, the picture creates an ugly orange or yellowish colour cast in the images. The best kind of light for food photography is soft, diffused, natural daylight. When the weather is warm, you could try photographing your food outside.
Control the Shadows
Shadows are a vital essence in the photos as they can make or break a picture by adding depth and visual interest of the viewer but at times can ruin the image if it is out of control. Depending on the directional sunlight the intensity of the shadows will be cast, if the directional sunlight is strong then the intensity of the shadows will be cast hard and whereas in overcast day the shadows are more diffused and soft blending in more smoothly with the subject.
Neutral Background
It is necessary to have a neutral background such as in cases where backgrounds with designs or patterns tend change the importance of viewing the subject rather to the designs and patterns. It is important to blend in the subject in with the background with correct colour palate. Neutral background doesn’t mean that is has to be completely neutral or plain but must compliment the subject to its surrounding. Best backgrounds would be Dark, Light and Wooden backgrounds.
